For 1922, I’d like to write an episode about the Swedish Institute for Racial Biology, but I still need to find out in which month it was formed.
Well I haven’t heard anything about that institute and hopefully it was left behind 100 years ago. But I do know a lot of people who have gone to Ã…land on vacation in the summer and say it’s beautiful. I’ve only been to Gotland out of the big islands. It’s really nice!
Unfortunately, as long-term effects are another point that I try to look out for when I pick 100-year old stories, the Swedish eugenics program lasted until 1975. :/
In “The Hundred-Year-Old Man who Climbed out of the Window and Disappeared”, this is the program where the main character is forcibly sterilized.
Other than that, it’s a very funny book, though: https://andreasmoser.blog/2021/08/08/the-hundred-year-old/
I have been to neither Ã…land, nor Gotland yet, but I would be thrilled to go!
That’s a great feel-good book! He’s got a few more that are the same kind of vibe.
Okay, now I now what to get my parents for Christmas! Thank you!!
I am in Germany now.
So, the more wheat I eat, the less will be left for the U-Boat crews!
I am off to the shop to buy more gingerbread…
For liberty and freedom on the high seas!
Yes! Eat that wheat! We must defeat the Kaiser!
(I wouldn’t eat all these lovely German pastries and breads, but…….it’s my duty!)
I am going to be round like a hot-air balloon after this winter, but it will have been for freedom and democracy!
And that Kaiser really was a douchebag:

Wow! He certainly was. (Not that I was really in any doubt 😉 ) Very cool series “one hundred years ago”. I’ll have to read more!
Thank you!
It has been a good tool to force me to write regularly, only missing one month so far.
The episode for June 1921 is about Sweden, at least tangentially: https://andreasmoser.blog/2021/06/27/aland/
