We love your cheese!

I just read an article in an online paper called The Local about the Swedish Consul General to China trying to teach the Chinese the difference between Sweden and Switzerland. The above map was created to help people tell the difference.

I understand how the Consul General feels.  Everytime we go to the states, we have to endure compliments about our wonderful cheeses, clocks, and especially our chocolate.  Depending on who it is, we either say, “Thank you” or say, “Yes, we do have nice cheese, clocks and chocolate, but I have a feeling it’s not the ones you’re thinking of.”

When I was moving to Sweden, so many people asked me how I would feel living in Switzerland.  I had to respond that I didn’t know but I’d try to get there for vacation.  My boss at work thought I was moving to Spain.  Really, anything with an S will do.

So here’s my way of straightening it out.   Switzerland – Alps.  Sweden – Abba.
