Let’s go to the movies!

Apparently, some theaters are open again in Stockholm! Not very many, but a few. There are maybe about 10 movies playing in the whole city, but one of them is “Tenet”, so we had to check it out. In Sweden, you make reservations online and choose your seat before you go the movies. At this … Read more

So relaxing

Today, I noticed my shower gel says, “Like lying down in a meadow of flowers.” Is that supposed to be a good thing? Because a meadow of flowers has bees, ants, plant lice, probably dog poop hidden in there, etc.

Illustrations

This is why I want a job as an illustrator. How many hours do you think it took for the artist to get those images just right?

Good for kids!

Google Maps has this thing where it lets you know if an attraction is “good for kids.” Not sure exactly how well this works, as I found this while looking for things to do with my kids in Turin:

Nature sounds

I make playlists of nature sounds to listen to while I work. I was a little surprised to see some tracks listed as explicit. I had no idea those birds had such filthy language.

An unexpectedly busy summer

I’ve been off the internet for most of the summer. Contrary to the rest of the world, we have done more traveling this summer than usual. One trip for a family issue, one trip never cancelled, and one trip within our own country that had been planned because we assumed all other trips wouldn’t happen. … Read more

This is not a “cake”!

Don’t be fooled, expats in Sweden. If you are offered a smörgåstårta at an event, this is NOT a cake! Yes, “tårta” is the Swedish word for cake, but “smörgås” is the Swedish word for sandwich and that’s where everything goes wrong. Bottom line is shrimp does not belong on a cake.

Is this a common problem?

I follow this subreddit where people ask if they are right or wrong about an issue. This one caught my eye. It’s an issue we all must face at some time in our lives.

Cause it just feels wrong to throw them out?

I saw this article, at first thinking it was about my husband, but then realizing they said ‘phones’ and not ‘cords’. However, we actually do have about 11 old mobile phones sitting in a box. I keep thinking we should make an art project out of them. I had them all in a glass vase … Read more

Mask on Your Face

Bored? There’s a whole internet full of public domain and Creative Commons material for you to remix and make into “viral” (pun indended) videos.

Bedclothes

Looking for sheets today and I just realized that the Swedish word for sheets/bedding is “sängkläder” or “ clothes for beds”, so that’s what I’m calling my sheets from now on. “I need to wash the clothes for my bed.” “I need to buy some clothes for my bed.”
