Don’t believe the hype.

Well, it’s been fake spring here in Stockholm all week. The sun is shining. The temperature reaches highs like 10c (50F) – Yeah, yeah, I know, but it’s warm for around here in March.  All the Swedes are happy.  People are eating ice creams.  I saw someone with their grill outside this weekend.  I’m even … Read more

Banana Graffiti

The neighborhood across from us has been seiged by banana graffiti.  The bananas are watching you. “EAT A BANANA AND APPRECIATE WHAT YOU HAVE.” “BANANAS!!!” “THEY’RE WATCHING”

Top-rated restaurant

This weekend, I was looking for a nice restaurant for my husband and I to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I finally found one with a top rating.  That is, it was voted “Stockholm’s Best Toilet.”  I’m so glad the restaurant put that on the website.  My choice is made.

My breakfast

This was my breakfast yesterday morning.  Actually, it included small chocolate, licquorice passion fruit cakes as well but they didn’t last long enough for the picture. I might also want to mention that I decided to take an online nutrition class this week where you have to chart your food.  That’s why I added the … Read more

I got one year left to be in my 30s, starting….NOW!

Today is my birthday.  I’m 39 years old.  I have one more year to check off the boxes on forms that say 30-39. Goals for age 39: 1. Get carded at least 3 times at the liquor store.  C’mon… I can still get away with it, right? 2. Continue to ignore getting a cholesterol test … Read more

Happy Mardi Gras

Today is Mardi Gras!  In Sweden, that means you have to eat one of these – a semla.  Believe me, it’s totally equal to partying in New Orleans in terms of how full and exhausted you feel after finishing one.  But it’s so worth it. From visitsweden.com – “Semla is a doughy ball of sin, … Read more

In da club

Well I went to a club this weekend to watch my husband perform.  Apparently, THIS is what goes on while I’m normally asleep on a Friday night. So this is how the kids dance these days?  – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efdh-ThfNRM

Under the Bridge

Tonight I’m going to a club called “Under the Bridge” to watch my very talented husband perform.  Of course, when he first told me he was performing “under the bridge,” I tried to assure him that we weren’t having bad money problems and I’m sure he could find something better to do than sing under … Read more

Ikea day

I’m going to Ikea today, as every good Swede is required to do at least 4 times a year.  I need to buy a bedside table, but I also need napkins and ziploc bags.  Yep, I take the car out to giant Ikea to stock up on napkins and ziploc bags. Why not buy them … Read more

“Spring” break?

This week in Stockholm is spring break for kids in school.  Actually, it’s not called spring break (for obvious reasons -since spring might not arrive until May), but “sport break.”  Most families take this week to go skiing.  This is something I will never understand. We have spent over 4 months with miserable winter and … Read more

Hibernation

When are the scientists going to realize that people in northern countries should really just hibernate all winter?

I expect him to win the Pulitzer

My 6 yr old son discovered fill-in-the-blank stories this morning.  He has really worked hard on the description in this story.  It’s as though he’s thought long and hard about life and chooses to express his innermost feelings in this story.  This is what we were treated to over breakfast: My classmate from the Super … Read more

My eyes!

This bright yellow ball pushed through our sky here in Stockholm yesterday.  It seemed familiar, as though something from a long time ago, back when we didn’t wear coats.  Some people called it “The Sun.”  I said the sun is just a myth.  I know nothing but clouds and gray.  There might have been something … Read more

Oh, it’s that time of year again…

…you guessed it – Winter Vomit Disease!  As usual, I still contend that I never heard of this horrible thing until I moved to Sweden.  You northerners have some messed-up sicknesses.  If you vomit in the south, it’s probably something to do with Taco Bell. This Winter Vomit Disease is pretty harsh and highly contagious.  … Read more

Happy VD!

Happy Valentine’s day! Our sons went into full gear last night with “Operation Secret.”  They ran back and forth from their rooms to ours saying, “Don’t look!  Don’t go in there!” Then as we put them to bed last night, they said, “When you wake up in the morning, you might want to search your … Read more

Shocking breaking news

This is definately a crisis for young Swedes.  I’m glad this paper was brave enough to bring up this important issue.
