Salmon with your chocolate?
1. Yes, that sign says, Hot Chocolate with a warm SALMON bagel. What a great combination! 2. This was at Ben & Jerry’s ice cream parlor. I don’t remember seeing Salmon bagels at the U.S. ice cream parlors.

This headline was in the Swedish paper this weekend. It says, “New trend: Make your own cheese in the fridge!” I think this child has captured my thoughts exactly on this new trend.
We had a parent-teacher conference for our youngest son last week. Over here, they invite the student to particpate in the parent-teacher conference. I really don’t get this concept. When I was young, your parents went for the conference at night, you waited at home and imagined all the horrible things you’d done at school … Read more
Don’t worry. I’m not letting myself off the hook with my week-long posts about the creepiest and worst kids’ t.v. shows ever. I end this week with a clip from the 70s show “Vegetable Soup.” I used to watch this show when I was little, even though it frightened me. Check out the clip. I … Read more
Going with my theme of horrible kids’ shows…. Some might think this is awful, but this is actually the only one on this list that I like and I would watch. No weird, creepy kids’ show list would be complete without something from Japan. This one makes me laugh: http://youtu.be/C-Y80pxkE6Y?t=11s
Oh, Sweden isn’t escaping my week of messed-up children’s programming. This is from the 70s in Sweden. My husband often speaks of this show and then shudders, going into an almost catatonic state. Pretty much, it’s about a boy who just plays with characters in his giant pancake. http://youtu.be/jnCOwTdXb74?t=2m15s
After the shocking discovery of “Rastamouse,” I decided to investigate what was going on with children’s television at the BBC. It’s becoming clearer why the British empire no longer exerts much power. What are they putting in the water over there? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kz9cmZVOqkg
While trying to find the lowest rated shows on Netflix last night (still haven’t found one star yet), we came across a British cartoon called “Rastamouse.” We watched this for about 3 minutes with our mouths open. I umm…. I don’t know what to say. I guess it’s nice that people on drugs have something … Read more
Today in our local paper, there is a letter written by a woman complaining that she wants to breast feed her child for 2 years and it’s UNFAIR that the Swedish government ONLY gives her 15 months of paid parental time off work. It should be a full 2 years, she says. Wow. Americans, please … Read more
Some American products are unavailable or hard to find in Sweden. It’s getting better, but we’re still missing alot or if you can find things, they are extremely expensive. I was browsing around a little specialty store in Stockholm when I found this. Downy fabric softener. The price tag is 239 kr. Allow me to … Read more
I went to play pool this week in Stockholm with one of my friends. I haven’t played in a while, so it was fun, plus we were evenly matched, which is to say we were both quite terrible. Playing in this extremely clean, smoke-free, empty pool hall in Stockholm (with pop 80s music on the … Read more
My son asked me the other day, “Will you be alive in 2024?” Umm… I hope so? This was his opening question before telling me that WE are going to live on Mars in 2024. His brother walked up and corrected him, saying that “we” meant humans, and that our family would probably not be … Read more
Apparently a man was sentenced for drilling holes in the tires of an ice cream truck this past autumn because he couldn’t take the constant melody. “A prominent Swedish businessman was sentenced and fined on Friday after he cut holes in the tyres of an ice cream truck because its jingle threw him into a … Read more
Why can’t my toothpaste look like this? I really don’t understand why adult toothpaste can’t have cool pictures too. We could have cool characters from our shows just like kids do: Walter White Toothpaste, whitening power! (toothpaste color is blue). Rick Grime’s Zombie Clean (get that grime off your teeth!) Sherlock Holmes Mystery Paste (shows … Read more
This is what I’ve been hearing from my 6 year old son for the past two mornings. He gets a very concerned face and then tells us, “America is losing millions of dollars!” He’s very upset. We finally got him to tell us that he heard this several times on the internet radio. Our kids … Read more
My son forgot his fruit to take to school today. When he and my husband left, I suddenly remembered and banged on the window to get their attention. I threw an orange out of the window. It was smashed. I really thought oranges were stronger than that. It could also be because we live in … Read more
I rarely check my junk mail, but last week I was missing a mail and decided to look through it. I really should check it more often. I had a mail from “Minster of Telephones was a new position.” Now personally, I think Minister of Telephones is impressive enough. He really shouldn’t include an entire … Read more
From online Swedish news site, the local. If I had to guess – someone just broke up with an Italian.
(Disclaimer: I am not trying to make fun of the issues in the announcements – simply the poor quality of the announcements.) I know I’ve mentioned this before, but what’s happening with these American Public Service Announcements on the radio? We listen to Internet radio stations in the morning during breakfast, and they are full … Read more
This car is parked outside our building. Can’t say I agree with the sticker on the back.
