The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single sneeze

I went to France last week expecting to bring back wine and cheese. Instead I came back with a chest cold and fever.

The trip went fairly well, excepting the chest cold and attitude of teenagers. (Pro tip for future travelers: the French Riviera is utterly wasted on the young. They couldn’t care less about picturesque coastlines when there’s Wi-Fi.)

I could fill this post with the classic vacation photos you’ve come to expect like breathtaking landscapes, perfect selfies, and tasty croissants, but that’s not really what I got. Let me take you behind the scenes of my camera roll. These are the candid moments that happen on every family trip but rarely make it to social media.

Let me know if you can recognize similar situations from your family vacations:

Me to teenager: Can you take a photo of me in front of this cute shop?

Teenager: Ok!

(But the man in back of me was funnier, so he took a photo of that guy instead.)

Me to teenager: Take a photo of me from the side in front of this building so I look natural and not so posed.

Teenager: Ok!

(I did not ask for a close-up.)

Does this happen on your family trips as well? I would imagine it does. I propose that we all start putting these types of photos from our trips on social media that we can all relate to, especially those of us who have to rely on our children to take our photos.
