I may be getting better at Swedish, but I still make mistakes.
Our kids each had a friend over this week. One of the friends went home early and the other boy didn’t see him leave. When the boy asked where the friend went, I meant to tell him that he left (went away) and I said in Swedish, “Han har gått bort.”
The kid just stared at me, clearly disturbed. Luckily, my husband was close by and rushed in to tell him that the other friend was fine. Apparently in Swedish, what I said translates to, “He has passed away.”
My husband can laugh all he wants, but when we first got married and my grandmother hurt her hand, he told her she should get a casket (meaning “cast” but not knowing the right word.) So now we’re even.
Hilarious. Just found your blog. Look forward to reading. Best, Joel
Thanks! Yours is way more hilarious though. I’ll have to up my game. 🙂

Thanks! I started to think it might scare some people away. haha!
Awful and humorous.
I wish I could have captured the look on that boy’s face when I said it.
