Flying solo…

…or duet, in my kids’ case.

Today we are sending our kids on their first flight alone to visit their grandparents.  Luckily, it’s only a 30 minute flight and they are experienced enough with trips that I think they will do fine.  They are 7 and 10.

I was around 19 the first time I flew alone. I flew to Cleveland, Ohio from Houston.  I had a wonderful time!  I was invited to the back of the plane and got to do the end-flight landing announcements.  I put on my best flight attendant voice, “Ladies and gentlemen, the captain has turned on the seatbelt sign. Please fasten your seatbelts and we hope you’ve had a pleasant journey.”

I actually got a bit of applause from my fellow passengers.  I wonder if my kids will get the same opportunity. Maybe it’s different with a 7 and 10 year old.  I imagine they would sing the Pokemon theme song and then head back to their seats.  I bet they would get applause too though.
